Treating Heel Pain – The full solution?

Treating Heel Pain – The full solution?

Treating Heel Pain - The full solution

Heel pain is one of the most debilitating conditions that our doctors see every single day. Pain in the morning is common for people; first step and OUCH! Only to be relieved or Plateau and return later in the day! This makes treating heel pain effectively a necessity for many people.

Shockwave has become one of the gold standard treatments for heel pain.  As one of the first clinics to adopt shockwave we have seen a rise in its use across other clinics and sadly not always successfully. The reason is often because well meaning practitioners who use this, use it as a stand alone treatment and NOT as part of a treatment plan to beat painful heels!

Plantar Fasciitis, Heel Spurs and Achilles tendinitis will all respond well to shockwave, however, alone as a therapy shockwave will only provide part of a solution.

Heel pain requires a treatment plan that incorporates multiple areas to be addressed from Footwear to foot posture, then to address both the soft tissue pain and then the tissue strength to balance it’s recovery and get patients back to happy healthy and active.

Sadly treating heel pain with shockwave alone will rarely see patient recover leading to more pain and frequently frustration!

Frustrating mistakes Dr’s and other practitioners make when treating heel pain

Yeah, you know I think one of the most frustrating mistakes I see practitioners make is treating all heel pain like it's the one condition. The problem is if you continue to diagnose everything as fasciitis, and you also treat it in exactly the same way.

No one solution is perfect for all patients. Everyone responds to treatments differently and, Therefore, each person requires a care plan that’s individual to them.

I hope that helps. Make sure you head to our information below and our links to look up more information about heel pain, foot types, and other sports injuries. We look forward to making you happy, healthy and active.

Treating Heel Pain

The biggest mistake doctors and practitioners make

Ready for the shocking truth? Let’s hear the most frustrating mistake that doctors and practitioners make when treating heel pain. Watch the video now.

Not all heel pain is the same. There are multiple causes of heel pain including plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis and muscle overuse (tibialis posterior tendonopathy).

The problem is, plantar fasciitis (also known as runner’s heel) is one of the most popular causes of heel pain and so practitioners tend to misdiagnose ALL heel pain as fasciitis.

Dr Foot says, “The problem with practitioners diagnosing all heel pain as fasciitis is that they also treat all heel pain in the same way—no one solution is perfect for everyone!”

What are the symptoms of plantar fasciitis?

Typical indicators of plantar fasciitis include:

  • Stabbing pain and stiffness in the underside of the heel
  • Heel pain that’s more intense in the morning or after sitting for lengthy periods
  • Pain in the heel after standing for hours
  • Pain that increases after activity
A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoesCharles Spurgeon

If these factors don’t relate to your heel pain—or even if they do, it’s important to know that your practitioner has considered and explored a multitude of potential causes of your heel pain.

Without an individual care plan, there’s no guarantee the underlying cause of your heel pain is being addressed.
